Common problems of Kohler 7000 Series

Any machine can have a problem or a few after you have used it for a long time, so the Kohler 7000 series engine is no different. However, the good thing is that you can fix the problems by knowing the exact causes behind the issues. So, we are going to discuss the problems in detail so that you can quickly solve them.

1. Problems with starting

Problems with starting are the most common problem of any machine. And there can be a lot of reasons for this problem. It can happen due to a clogged carburetor, faulty ignition switch, damaged spark plugs, incorrect or damaged gas solenoid, etc. reasons.

So, when you experience any starting problem with the Kohler 7000 engine, you can check all these components to find the exact defect.

Also, do not forget to check the fuel level. People often forget to fuel their engine and then worry about why it is not starting. If the fuel is okay, then check the fuel filter. If it is clogged, then clean it. Or if it is too damaged, then replace it.

A clogged carburetor also needs to be adequately cleaned to make the engine work. Check the spark plugs, ignition switch, and gas solenoid. If any of the components are broken, then replace them.

2. Starter switch problem

A starter switch is also known as the ignition switch. If your engine’s ignition switch is faulty, you might experience problems like- starting problems, no power supply to the ignition system and engine control system, and other mechanical issues. However, this may not always cause starting issues, but it is better to solve the problem as soon as possible.

Solution

You might want to fix or repair the ignition switch with the help of an expert. However, it costs nearly the same as buying a new one. So, it is better to replace the ignition switch if you find it faulty.

3. Fuel problems

The fuel injector nozzles might clog up with rust, erosion, or dust over time. When the fuel injectors get clogged, they may not provide the necessary quantity of gasoline to the cylinders, and the car may not start quickly. This can also happen when the engine is too old, fuel contaminants, and wrong electrical installment.

Solution

The fuel problems can be resolved by cleaning the engine and its components. Oslo, make sure to replace the old fuel if there is old fuel. Be careful while treating the issue as it is often mistreated.

4. Carburetor problems

If you experience the engine performance has deteriorated or smoke coming out, engine overheating, or backfiring that means your engine has carburetor problems. A weak fuel pump, plugged fuel filter or fuel line, or bad gas can cause carburetor problems.

Solution

To solve the carburetor issue you need to check the fuel pump. If it is weak, then replace it. If the fuel filter is plugged in, then clean it properly but gently so you do not cause any further damage. Check the gas condition of the fuel. If it is bad or expired, drain it and refill it. Thus, you can solve the carburetor issue.

5. Ignition coil problem

When you experience issues like the engine vibrating excessively, poor fuel economy, loss of power, noise, hard starts and stalling, etc. issues then it might be an ignition coil issue. To solve all the issues, all you need to do is to replace the ignition coil.

6. Smart choke problem

Smart choke issues are mainly associated with torsion springs and linkage. To solve this issue you need to inspect for contact with the spark plug. If the spark plug is bad, then replace it. Because the wiring often prevents the linkage and air vein from operating properly.

  1. My engine has a problem with running poorly when blades are engaged. Runs rough sometimes and backfires as well, then smooths out and runs ok and then does it again. I’ve had it at an authorized repair facility two or three times and each time they claim its fixed. When I get it home it still does it! It wasn’t fixed! He blamed me for not changing the air filter when the booklet plainly said I could just blow it out and clean it. I have kept the oil changed and good gas in it and the tank is clean and I have changed the fuel filter. I keep the maintenance up on it. I have just now had it two or maybe three years and even took it back to where I purchased it from and they wouldn’t take it back either. Can you help?

  2. Mine is running while the gas is full for approximately 2 minutes then starts to run rough then dies. Will start back up while choking. Maybe go 30 seconds and stop again. Have to top it off again to get fuel to go to my fuel filter. Pump works when fuel gets to it. My fuel line enters the gas tank from the top. Any ideas?
